The first day will introduce the activity and build excitement. Days two is the workday for creating a Power Point slide show, and view final slideshow of entire class.
Students will:
DAY ONE:
listen to the story Chrysanthemum
participate in Chrysanthemum’s Treasure Hunt where they will rename themselves, find the meaning of their names, and will explore Kevin Henkes’ website

Students will go to the starfall website: http://www.starfall.com and do the "Who am I?" section at the smartboard a table at a time while the rest of the class is working on t-shirts.
Timeline for Implementation Project:
Reading: Chrysanthemum–
Chrysanthemum loves her name until children at school start to tease her about it. Her teacher helps her regain her self-esteem and learn to love her name once again.
Introduce Kevin Henkes. There is an example of cubism in this story. Kevin Henkes created a version of Pablo Picasso’s Demoiselles d’Avignon.
Read Chrysanthemum. Discuss.
Explain meaning of my name. Ask if they know where their name comes from. Show Power Point slide I created about my name and me.
Distribute “What’s In a Name?” sheets. Tell students to return them next time we are at lab. See materials section for a “What’s In a Name?” activity page.
Discuss project with students. Build excitement.
Tell them Chrysanthemum has a special mission for them if they choose to accept. Pass out Chrysanthemum’s Treasure Hunt to students. Give them a few minutes to read the note from Chrysanthemum and collect their supplies. See copy of “Chrysanthemum’s Treasure Hunt” in materials section
