TECH LESSON

Content objective:NETS      Creativity and Innovation =          1. students will create All About Me poster using Wordle         2. When students have completed their wordles they will create an All About Me PowerPoint.       Technology Operations and Concepts =            Students will learn how to use the basic tools in Microsoft Word           Safety-Net Vocabulary: New Document, Open, File-Save As, Desktop, Dock,                          Exit Program, Quit Program, Log-out. Learning Sequence: Above and Beyond:     Check on the following first:             Time Magazine Pictures  IXL logins     AR Accelerated Reader  FASTTMATH    1. Download the All About Me worksheet and fill it out on word or give them All about me worksheet and pass out pencils. 2. Create an All About me wordle. Don’t forget to take a picture of your wordle and place on the desktop.   Shift/Command/4 If your computer is missing a plug-in just save your word document and we will complete next time… 3. Now create a PowerPoint Presentation on All About Me a. Change your theme b. Use transitions c. Insert images d. You may want to record what you want to be when you grow up…   To make a Wordle 1. First Open Microsoft Word -New Blank document and type in your All About Me words.      Make sure you begin with your name- Type it in 5 times      Ms. Pincomb      Ms. Pincomb      Ms. Pincomb      Ms. Pincomb      Ms. Pincomb      Type in all of your words that describe you. (Creative, Intelligent, etc.)      Use a tilde ~ in front and between words that you want to go together      (~Loves~Basketball~Technology~Geek~)      Spell check your document.      Next Highlight your document. Right click and select Copy or Command-C or go      to Edit and select Copy.Have a buddy peer edit.  2. Open the Wordle Program.  3. Click in the window and right click and select Paste. Let me check it before you    hit "GO". 4. Select "Go." 5. You can change the layout or colors. Please select something that does not have a    black background. 6. Once you have your Wordle the way you want it 7. You will then screen capture this Click on Shift/Command/4 8. Once you see the crosshairs icon drag it diagonally to capture your entire Wordle image. 9. Now go to your desktop  and your wordle should be there.

**Work on SLC PowerPoint after login check if students have not completed them.

1. First listen to online story about a pet dog:The name of the story is: The night I followed my Dog narrated by actress Amanda Bynes.

Click the picture below to go to Brain Pop Jr. Play the video and complete the activities.

2.  Review the computer parts with this PowerPoint.  WWW. Computer Detective PowerPoint (on the desktop and/or you can download.
3.  Introduce students to: Computer Growing with Technology  
4.  Introduce the mouse using Computer Mouse Basics
5.  Introduce the keyboard The Keyboard 
6. Have students go to computers fill out  All about me worksheet and pass out pencils. When they have finished worksheet they can login to computers using

          username: mves

          password: mves1234  

          if their computers do not have Monte Vista Tech Lab on their homepage for Firefox, have them type in the following url before they begin. http://montevistatechlab.pbworks.com

1. Have them do the worksheet on Word with tilde's. have them follow the directions below for the Wordle. check the students word document before they begin the wordles.
2. At end of class have the students save the do end of clas procedures. Red dot close programs. Apple log-out log-out and stand up and get ready to line up....

To make a Wordle
1. First Open Microsoft Word -New Blank document and type in your All About Me words.

     Make sure you begin with your name- Type it in 5 times

     Type in all of your words that describe you. (Creative, Intelligent, etc.)
